About the Penguin Geek

Weird. Quirky. Random. Those three words pretty much describe who I am.

I got the nickname "Penguin Geek" when I was about four. Back then, I could tell you every fact about penguins known to science. I probably still can, but my brain's been filled with all of the "useless" things they teach at school. I'm still as obsessed with penguins as I was back then, though, and that will never change.

Besides penguins, my other interest include art, drama, reading, writing, karate, the environment, photography, video games, and anime. Yes, I'm one of those video game-playing geeks- and proud.
I currently own a large collection of video games and anime- namely thanks to my sister going to college and the yearly trip to anime conventions. I'm an avid gamer and am known to sometimes lock myself in my room for days at a time playing. I'm not a total zombie, though.

I'm actually an honers student at my school, and come September, I will be one of only fifty students taking the all of the highest honors classess available. My favorite school subjects are Art and English. I also enjoy Science and most of Social Studies, but I don't like American History because I've heard it too many times, and it is focused too much on warfare. I do like Math, but I've had a problem with mixing up my numbers when I figure out the problem and when I double-check, so frequently low scores make the class less enjoyable. I'm also in many afterschool activities.

For afterschool activities, Chorus has been my longest running companion. I've been in Chorus since third grade, but have been singing for as long as I can remember. I haven't tried competitions yet, because I feel I'd rather leave that to my amazing friends with waaay better voices. Hopefully, I'll catch up to their talents. Since September of 2008, I've been taking vocals lessons; already my range has improved by two octaves. I hope to take acting lessons there as well. I've been in many school plays and musicals, and a couple out of school, but I've only gotten minor leads. In this years school production of Once Upon a Mattress, I was the wizard. I can't wait to get into the High School's drama department in the fall- that will be fun.

Speaking of fun, I've also taken a liking to debating. Last school year, my Social Studies teacher made us do many debates related to topics we were gong over. This year, too, my Science teacher let us choose to debate a topic as our final project. I wasn't in any of the debates, but I did judge them, and I easily could think of many rebuttles for either side that were never said. I wonder if I can use that power at home.....

When I'm at home I love reading, drawing, and writing. Reading is probably genetic, as everyone in my house is a geek of some sort, and we have books lining every wall. Drawing may also be genetic, because my mom's very good at making jewelry and clay art, and my sister... well, you'd have to see it to beleive it. Writing, however, is purely me. My sister supposedly dabbled in it a bit and got a few awards, but all of the teachers we've both had say that I'm better. *Ahem* sorry for the inmodesty there, I've just always been compared to my sister, and she usually wins. Anyways, I am currently working a few books, and many poems. I never get to finish any of them, however, because I'm always at karate.

I've been doing karate for nearly five years now. Come next spring (if all goes well), I should be getting my black belt. I hold the record for most boards broken with the foot, and will soon hold the record for boards broken with the hand. I'm not sure if I will hold the record for amount of bricks broken in the near future- I only recently realized that I was allowed to break them. In fact, the week I first broke a brick was probably the best week in my karate life ever. The Friday before, I became a official teacher! I had been helping out with classes for at least a year before that, but due to the fact that I was taking junior classes instead of adult classes, I got the red jacket later than most (At least, that's how I figure it. It might just be that they weren't sure I was that good). The next day was my first sparring competition, and I got a third place metal. That Sunday was my birthday, but that wasn't really important. The following day, a Monday, was the board breaking class. There were also a couple other events, but I'm afraid i'm starting to bore the audiance (AKA, my cousin whom I'm reading this to as I type)

Photography I've just started to pick up, and there isn't much to write about. You can read about my interest in the environment on a different page.

Well, that's me. Sorry if it was a little long, but I'm a pretty complex person, and I like explaining things in detail. Sorry if I sounded a little haughty in places, but I'm proud of myself. So, Adios for now!
